Few of us spend as much time doing our hair as women used to in the past. But if you are interested in how to do finger waving or how to cut the hair they used to do in the 1920's and 1930's, in that case these books is a must.
They are available to buy online and to download electronically. Click the images in this post for more information and how to buy.
Finger waving is an old technique in hairstyling and there's been very little written about the subject. But to make a long story short it is about shaping waves between your fingers while the hair is wet, preferably newly washed and with a styling product added. Then you let the hair dry without any hair blower or similar. This means that it is rather time consuming and difficult to do on yourself. But it can be used on both short and long hair. If done on long hair it looks best if the hair is tied in a tail in the neck. Another technique that was invented in 1872 by Francois Marcel was the Marcel Wave. The Marcel Wave is a bit different from Finger waving in that you need a Marcel Iron. It looks pretty much like a regular curling iron, but it's much thinner and gets very hot. You can buy these in almost any store that sell hairstyling products today.
